Distant Learning through Video-conferencing

Fun, Easy, Inexpensive!

Author Visit to your Classroom

Videoconferencing, the next best thing!

Distant Learning with Videoconferencing

Traditional Author Visits a thing of the past?  Too much trouble?  Too much expense?  How about an inexpensive way to have an author visit with very little work.  Sound good?  Consider this.

Over the last 17 years, I have literally visited thousands of classrooms throughout the United States, starting three years ago, I have literally visited thousands of student, around the world.  I love to travel but a few years back, I was often 3-6 months on book tour, visiting schools (daily) and doing book signings (on the weekend).  I became exhausted, grumpy, didn’t have time to write and felt like I just needed a change.

Videoconferencing allowed me to do this.  I have a studio set up in my office, not just Skype, but I work with Polycom too (quality is better).  I can connect to your school district, school, classroom, or any place your tech people can set me up.

Sure, it isn’t eye-ball to eye-ball with your kids, and I do miss all the hugs and the great energy from a school visit, but it works, and is the next best thing, and (fortunately or unfortunately) it is the wave of the future.

What Can I Do?

Here are just a few programs that I have done in the last year.

·         60-minute one-on-one Author Interviews, (I do a short introduction. Students ask questions)

·         90-minute Author Visit (I do an overview of how I got started writing and answer questions)

·         Book Interviews 60 or 90 minutes (Students read a selected book. I share information concerning the writing, research of the book, and they ask questions.)

·         Adult Interviews for libraries, clubs, organizations

·         60-90 minute writing workshop for students

·         60-90 minute writing workshop for adults

·         Author in Residence: 3 60 - 90 minute programs (once a month for three months, two months of pre-writing practice, 3rd month, either an in school visit or another video visit where students talk about and ask questions about writing.)

·         Designed programs for your classroom.  You have an idea and would like me to work with you to create it through Distant learning.  Contact me.  Author@prodigy.net

Price?

Depends on the program, but generally runs around $100.00 – $150.00 per hour.  No transportation costs, no hotels, no meals out, and NO stress. (The techs handle nearly everything that needs to be done, except class preparation.
