Colors Everywhere: How Colorful are you?

Do you remember in the movie "The Wizard of Oz" at the gates to the Emeral City when the porter said to Dorothy and her friends, "Ah now, that's a horse of another color!"  What did he mean? Hmmm?

How about these colorful expressions: He saw red, I feel blue, She was in a black mood, what do these mean?  Think about it for a few minutes and write down your answers.  Do you recognize all the color names in your crayon box?  Check them out!

Colors can affect our mood and our stories, don't forget to use them.  Use them in your writing to make it more alive.

Think about the colors you set your action in.  If it's a gray rainy day and the girl is wearing a dark blue dress, will the reader feel differently about what is happening to her than if the sun is shining and she is in a red sweater and blue jeans?

Collect colorful words and phrases, write them in your writing journal and use them in your stories!
