Writing Ideas
Writing doesn't have to be something you do by yourself. Try these two ideas!
1. Tops and Bottoms
Ask your teacher if you can try this in your classroom or print off this page and take it into your teacher to consider.
As a group have everyone write a great first sentence of a story at the top of a sheet of paper. Then everyone folds the paper over so that this sentence can't be read and passes it on to the person on his or her left. Now everyone writes a great last sentence of a story on the bottom of the piece of paper (s)he has received. Pass the papers on again one or two places to the left and everyone try to write a story that joins up the first and last sentences on that paper. You can work in small groups or in large groups.
2. Progressive Story
Everyone starts a story, writing 3 interesting sentences. Then pass the papers one place to the left round the group. Carry on with another 3 sentences that go with the first 3. Keep writing and passing until you decide the stories are all finished. Any writer can start a new paragraph or introuce dialogue when it seems appropriate. Some of the stories may need to go on longer than others. If that happens the writers can pair up so that no-one is left out.
Have Fun! Janie
