What is Google Earth, “Trips in Time?”
A fun new way to make Janie’s books and Social Studies come alive!
How can you use “Trips in Time” in conjunction with
Janie’s books? It is simple,
absolutely no program skills necessary.
Just download your free copy of Google Earth onto your computer,
email Janie for the “free” files, and begin the fun!
Free Google Earth Download:
http://earth.goggle.com.
(Please make sure you download the correct GE program for your MAC or
PC!)
Once you have completed the download, experiment,
play, and fly! Get to know
Google Earth, it is an incredible tool to use at home or in your classroom.
TRY: Go to Search box in upper left hand
corner, Fly To box and put your home address in and see a satellite
view of your home. (Having Trouble?
Taskbar>help>User Guide or Tutorials.
You will get lots of help here!)

What is a KMZ file?
KMZ is a file extension used by Google Earth to save and share GE
projects with others.
How to use the KMZ files:
•
Make sure you have your free GE download
installed.
•
Email me to receive the files.
•
I will email you back with the “Free” files
sent as an attachment.
•
Start GE. Next: go to your email and open my
email, you will see the files as an attachment. Click on the attachment and
it will open in GE.
•
The file will load in your My Places
on GE, “Click” the box next to the tour name, it should turn green and the
icons should appear on the GE globe.
“Click” the + sign beside the tour folder to expand the folder.
“Click” on each location in order, an informational box will appear on the
GE globe and fly you to the location.
Zoom in and out to view waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and cities.
What “Trips in Time” files are available?
France to New France; St. Lawrence to the Great Lakes;The Northwest
Passage with Champlain, Sagard, Brule; “Traders in Time” with Meggie,
“Traders in Time” Scavenger Hunt.
